Aging is inevitable; try as you might to prevent the visible effects of time, wrinkles and other facial lines will likely appear in some form or another. While this is nothing to be ashamed of, many people find these signs of aging to be unflattering. Your appearance is an integral part of your identity, and you should feel confident about how you look.
Many plastic surgery providers will recommend a facelift as a solution to visible aging, but it’s common for patients to be concerned by the invasiveness of this procedure. Luckily, there are multiple non-surgical alternatives to choose from that provide results similar to, though not as dramatic as, a facelift.
Surgical Face Lift
This is perhaps the most well-known facial rejuvenation procedure. A full facelift is a surgical treatment that is invasive, results in some scarring, and requires significant downtime. However, you will be able to see significant improvement to your appearance, and the results last longer than most, if not all, non-surgical treatments. Full facelifts work best on patients who are experiencing heavy jowls and sagging skin around the face that is too extreme to be effectively treated with non-surgical procedures.
After the procedure, patients should expect to wait about two weeks before going back to their normal routine. The time it takes for facial swelling and redness to go down varies from patient to patient but typically resolves after a month or so. The procedure results in smoother, healthier looking skin, and can also provide restoration to a patient’s jaw muscles.
Injectable treatments can provide a patient with wrinkle reduction and increased facial volume, both of which aspects of a full facelift. There are a broad range of injectable treatments which all provide slightly different results. Popular products such as Botox® and Dysport® fall under this category. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Sang W. Kim, will help each patient decide which option is best for them during their consultation. This will be determined by the areas of concern and how severe the problem is.
Because the procedure is minimally invasive, there is little to no downtime after each treatment, and most patients are able to return to their schedules as normal.
Similar to injectable treatments, there are a wide range of dermal fillers that are used to melt away fat and enhance the skin’s elasticity. One of the more commonly known products in this category is Kybella®, which targets fat reduction in the chin and neck area.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
The least invasive procedure our offices offer, laser skin resurfacing stimulates natural collagen production in sub-surface layers of the skin. The procedure smooths the skin with long-lasting results.
